Classroom Management Basics

Hello, and welcome to a very brief overview of classroom management. This is primarily designed for elementary school teachers, but the broader principles can be applied to almost any age and endeavor. While classroom management is an extremely complex and nuanced subject, the hope is that the materials on this page will at least give you a strong theoretical foundation that you can later refine and adapt to your own particular style. 

This tool is broken up into three primary topics, and a general gumbo of tips and tricks at the end that will hopefully make your time in the classroom a bit easier.  If you're in an extreme hurry

Understanding the connection and interplay between incentives and consequences and being able to pick out trends and patterns in behavioral data will allow you to design and implement creative solutions to both extraordinary and everyday behaviors in the classroom.

A Little About
​Myself

My name is Andrew Burrell, and I’ve been a Special Education teacher for fifteen years.  The children I spent the most time with were the ones who were too violent and disruptive to be in the regular education setting without being a danger to themselves and others.  Over the years I've developed a few reliable techniques and tricks for maintaining order in an instructional setting, and I'd love to share those with you here.​
