Understanding Incentives
Incentives are the absolute core of any classroom management plan. You can't force anyone to do anything, so you need to persuade people to go along with you. The best way to do that is to create reasons for interests and yours to align. The presentation on the right will detail the different types of incentives available to you and the pluses and minuses associated with each. It's worth remembering that when you're providing positive incentives to kids, those incentives don't have to be material objects. You're not locked into just toys and candy. The best motivators are often experiential or social. The opportunity to do something nice for someone else or the class at large, or quality time with a cool adult can really be powerful. Remember: You can't make anyone do anything. |
